The ultimate rainforest adventure. Venture deep into the untouched wilderness of Bukit Lawang.
After breakfast, your licensed guide from Trekking Sumatra Expedition will collect you at 09:00 AM from your hotel lobby. You will begin your journey deep into the lush rainforest of Gunung Leuser National Park to see wild Sumatran orangutans. During the 6 to 7-hour trek, your guide will educate you on the local wildlife, flora, and fauna.
After a fresh lunch, you will continue trekking to spot more wildlife. If fortune favors us, you may see Thomas’s leaf monkeys, white-handed gibbons, siamangs, long-tailed macaques, pig-tailed macaques, hornbills, peacocks, and monitor lizards. You will also learn about traditional medicinal plants. In the late afternoon, your guide will select a scenic spot next to a small river deep in the forest to set up camp. Spend your free time swimming, helping prepare a delicious dinner, or learning essential jungle skills before drifting to sleep surrounded by the sounds of nature.
The adventure goes on as we immerse ourselves in the real, wild nature of the tropics. Today is dedicated to spotting exotic animals and learning more about the behaviors and lifestyles of Sumatran orangutans.
We will spend the night at a secluded campsite close to Jambur Batu Atas. From there, we will take a short walk to a beautiful hidden waterfall—the perfect place to relax, unwind, and dip into the cool, refreshing water after another incredible day of trekking.
On the third day of our excursion, a short hike will lead us to a mountain summit where you can admire breathtaking, panoramic views of the dense rainforest. As we venture even deeper into the heart of Gunung Leuser National Park, you will experience the raw beauty of the untouched jungle and its wildlife.
In the afternoon, we will set up our tents close to the pristine Bohorok River. You can go for another refreshing swim, chill out, or try some jungle fishing. Depending on the weather, we will sit by a cozy bonfire in the evening, playing interactive group games, singing songs, and sharing essential jungle survival skills before settling down in our tents.
Wake up to a hearty breakfast prepared by our camp chef. You will have plenty of free time this morning to relax at the campsite, go for a short trek, or take a final swim in the beautiful waterfall.
Afterward, our team from Trekking Sumatra Expedition will prepare the traditional tubes for an exciting, fun-filled river rafting experience. We will splash downstream along the river, riding the currents all the way back to Bukit Lawang and directly to your hotel!
Comfortable trekking shoes, flip-flops (for the campsite), two or three changes of clothes, a long-sleeved sweater (it gets cool deep in the jungle at night), a towel, a large bottle of water, insect repellent, sun cream, swimwear, a torch/flashlight, and toilet paper or wet wipes.
