The definitive rainforest experience. Explore the deepest parts of Gunung Leuser National Park with Trekking Sumatra Expedition.
After breakfast, your licensed guide from Trekking Sumatra Expedition will collect you at 09:00 AM from your hotel lobby. You will immediately start your journey into the jungle of Gunung Leuser National Park to spot wild Sumatran orangutans. During this 6 to 7-hour trek, your guide will educate you on the local wildlife, flora, and fauna.
After a fresh lunch, you will continue trekking to see other wild animals (if you’re lucky, you may see Thomas’s leaf monkeys, white-handed gibbons, siamangs, long-tailed macaques, pig-tailed macaques, hornbills, peacocks, and monitor lizards) and learn about medicinal plants. In the late afternoon, your guide will set up camp next to a pristine river deep in the forest. Enjoy your free time swimming, helping prepare dinner, or learning jungle survival skills before sleeping to the sounds of nature.
Continue your incredible adventure deeper into the tropical rainforest, spotting wildlife throughout the day and learning more about the behaviors, lifestyles, and social skills of wild orangutans.

Our campsite for the night will be set up on the flat terrain of Mount Uning. Weather permitting, your guide will take you for a dusk walk around the Uning area, where you may be fortunate enough to spot wild deer and other rare wildlife.
After breakfast, the true expedition begins as we venture even deeper into the untouched jungle. We will walk through raw valleys, climb pristine hills, and cross small rivers to discover the hidden habitats where tigers, elephants, wild pigs, sun bears, and deer live. You will learn how these incredible species survive in the wild.
Camp will be set up tonight at Alur Perak, a popular natural watering hole frequented by local jungle wildlife.
